#MondayMood (Bordeaux Edition)

I was scheduled to arrive today in Bordeaux for En Primeur – it's incredible how drastically things have changed just in the week-and-a-half since the travel restrictions were announced. This pandemic has been and will be incredibly difficult on wineries the world over, but it will prove even more challenging in Bordeaux, where producers rely so heavily on the immediate capital generated through the En Primeur presale of their wines to finance the coming season. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As threatening as this may be to the lifeblood of so many in the trade, I believe in the community of Bordeaux to come through this stronger than before. I've been fortunate to know many people in this business, and few are more resilient than the French (I suspect doubly so when it involves protecting something as quintessential to their nationality as wine). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ To try and bring Bordeaux to me, I opened bottles from two of my favorite producers this past weekend, @chateau_paviemacquin and @chateaucarbonnieux; the wines were both radiating the joie de vivre that I look forward to all of us getting back to once this mess is put in the rear-view. It feels a little tunnel vision-y to single out the Bordelais for some love in a time when so many are hurting, but they were on my mind – just means I'll have to share more wines and good vibes ASAP. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Stay safe, drink well, and if you have empty spots in your wine rack like I do, get them filled when you can! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @wine_advocate on Chateau Pavie Macquin 2008: "Consultants Nicolas Thienpont and Stephane Derenoncourt have produced a beautiful St.-Emilion that tastes like the quintessence of crushed rocks intermixed with blueberry, blackberry, black raspberry, licorice, camphor and truffle notes. This full-bodied effort should drink well in 4-5 years, and last for two decades or more. It achieved 14.5% natural alcohol. 94 points." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @wineenthusiast on Chateau Carbonnieux Blanc 2016: "Lightly herbal, this is a crisp and bright wine. The strong structural element will allow the wine to age, with a textured character and perfumed acidity at the end. 93 points." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #wine #vin #france #bordeaux #enprimeur #specs1962
